Easy, Freezy, Delicious: The Easy Road to Frozen Pet Treats
It’s so hot right now in San Antonio that the chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs! As a result, our pets are at risk of overheating. Fortunately, there are many ways to protect your pet from the blazing sun, including offering up some delicious frozen pet treats. Take our word for it – there are few things cuter than a dog licking a personal pupsicle!
A Word on Summer Heat
Whether your dog is young or aging, he or she deserves protection against the rising temperatures. Without this, you may notice behavioral changes that precede obvious symptoms, such as heavy panting, weakness, vomiting, or diarrhea. Exposure to the elements constitutes a real pet emergency, and we urge you to contact us immediately.
Spoil Your Dog
So yummy and nutritious, frozen pet treats can really hit the spot. After scanning your pantry and fridge, you may reach the happy conclusion that you have the right ingredients to make your own yum-yum’s right now. Any of the following items (blended and frozen) please our canine friends:
- Peanut butter (make sure it’s Xylitol-free!)
- Unsweetened yogurt
- Carrots
- Blueberries
- Bananas
- Strawberries
- Cantaloupe
- Watermelon
- Apples
- Cooked sweet potato
Silly Business
Silicone molds make it easy to pop out frozen pet treats. Single-serving yogurt cups, regular ice cube trays, and disposable Dixie cups also work well. Simply place your dog’s favorite crunchy kibble or treats into the mold, fill with water, and place in the freezer.
Feel free to blend together any healthy fruits or veggies with yogurt or low sodium meat broth and pour into a Ziploc bag. Cut off one of the bottom corners to make filling your treat mold easy and mess free.
Extras!
Feeling generous? Add some pet jerky to your pupsicles. For maximum enjoyment, serve frozen pet treats after a six hour stint in the back of your freezer. Your dog will beg for more!
