leon_istock_101863205_largeWhat’s better than autumn, when the leaves turn vibrant colors and the nights cool off? Autumn pet events!

Now is the time to get outside with your pet and enjoy a little fall socialization and entertainment. Luckily, there are plenty of local pet events to pique you and your companion’s interest. The following are just a few we think are sure to be a hit.

5 Awesome Pet Events This Fall

  1. Leashes for Life 9/16 – This evening event helps support Daisy Cares, a nonprofit dedicated to providing food and medical care to pets in need. They also raise awareness around animal abuse and neglect. If you have a competitive streak, try your luck at the silent auction or just kick back and enjoy some refreshments and live music.
  2. Paws & Pints 9/24 – Need an excuse to enjoy a microbrew? Consider supporting local animal agencies by encouraging other San Antonians to come out and adopt a sweet cat, dog, or other furry friend. This event also features free microchipping and spay/neuter clinics offered by City of San Antonio Animal Care Services and the Humane Society. What a great way to socialize with other pet owners and support a good cause!
  3. San Antonio Pets Alive! Volunteer Orientation – Although the dates are ongoing throughout September, we encourage you to register if you have an interest in volunteering. This organization’s mission is to help save the lives of cats and dogs by finding them a forever home (we love people who volunteer for animals – thank you!).
  4. Hocus Pocus 10K & Trick-or-Treat Trot 10/29 – Benefitting the Animal Defense League of Texas, this race is perfect for all the runners who also love their pets. Not a runner? No worries! There will be trick-or-treat stations, costume contests, prizes, and much more fun for the whole family!
  5. Dog Days at the Botanical Garden 12/3 – One of San Antonio’s top destinations, the Botanical Garden is opening their doors to bloom lovers and dog lovers alike during this paw-friendly weekend. As an added bonus, you get to see the gorgeous grounds decked out in Christmas décor and lights.

With fall just around the corner, this is also a good time to get outside with your pup or to plan a Thanksgiving celebration for the whole family (your pet included).

From all of us at Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital, we hope you get a chance to enjoy one of the many pet events our city has to offer!
