Dr. Edmund Meier, Jr
Veterinarian

Edmund Meier Jr DVM is the owner of Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital. When Dr. Meier was a small boy, he knew he wanted to be a veterinarian. He grew up half a mile down the road from the vet clinic raising a menagerie of animals from sheep and goats to chickens and rabbits. Dr. Meier graduated locally from John Marshall High School and avidly participated in their Ag program showing lambs and pigs.

It was no surprise when he graduated from Texas A&M in 1988 with an Animal Science degree and then got his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M in 1993. After graduation, Dr. Meier worked in the Houston area and Brenham before deciding to return “home” to San Antonio in December 1996. He went to work for the then-owner of Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital and eventually went on to buy the veterinary practice in March 2001.

Dr. Meier says what he loves most about being a veterinarian is the mystery of figuring out what is ailing the pet since they “can’t talk to you” and the clients. He enjoys taking the time to talk with pet owners and getting to know them as family.

Dr. Meier describes his home life as being married for 30 years to his beautiful wife Susan. Being blessed with 3 children: Trevor a graduate of Texas A&M and currently attending Texas Tech Veterinary School; Brandon a United States Marine; and Ally a veteran of the United States Navy currently attending college. Members of his four-legged family are Tickle & Faith (yellow labs), Peanut and Punkin (chihuahuas), Freeway (poodle mix), Beau (mini Aussie), Trig (Jack Russel terrier), Finn (mix), and cats (Tiger, Jag, Snowy, Socks, and Callie).

Dr. Meier talks of his interests outside of work as looking for Indian artifacts, hunting and fishing in the great outdoors, and gardening. He says there’s nothing like cooking or canning with the fruits of your own labor.
