San Antonio Pet Wellness Care Made Easy

Wellness Care

Leon Valley Veterinary Hospital offers a variety of options for keeping your pets healthy through every stage of life. Wellness care focuses on preventing disease, catching and treating developing medical concerns early, and enhancing your pet's overall condition for maximum health and longevity.

Smart & Affordable Pet Care

Developing a plan for long-term health is a wise decision, covering all the bases for your pet. Such plans allow us to catch and treat problems at the early stage, avoiding unnecessary suffering and the high cost of advanced treatments.

Planning for pet care is good for pet owners, too, as it gives you deep discounts in veterinary services. Finally, continued good health allows you and your pets to enjoy a longer, more rewarding relationship. Isn't that what pet ownership is all about, after all?

Wellness Testing

Wellness testing helps maintain your pet's health and prevent disease by promoting early detection and treatment of illnesses. By establishing a baseline, we can closely monitor your pet's health status annually.

Drawing a small amount of blood and collecting a fresh urine sample can easily determine your pet's baseline. The comprehensive health profile consists of:

  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Complete chemistry and electrolytes
  • Thyroid analysis, as needed
  • Urinalysis, as needed
  • Feline AIDS and leukemia test (indoor/outdoor felines only)

We compare later results to this baseline. In annual wellness visits for healthy pets under six years of age, we may only require a mini-screen consisting of a complete blood count and mini-chemistry (liver, kidney, glucose, total protein, and albumin).

Once your pet's baseline has been established, we continue to monitor your pet’s health with yearly health exams. Health checkups are recommended every six months for pets over six years of age.
